COMPANY HISTORY AND GROWTH
The company was formed in 1990 when two veteran hotel operators,
Derick Rackham and Jim Smith, joined forces. Within a few weeks
they had acquired lease agreements on an initial group of six hotels.
In the years since, HHC’s management has become known for
its ability to deliver high levels of service and quality, along
with profits, to owners.
Through their own financial resources, and by utilizing their extensive
knowledge of the industry, the team began seeking other opportunities
to own, manage or lease hotels. The result has been steady growth.
The second of two new full service Hilton hotels has now opened
in Southlake, putting the number of HHC properties at 11 in 4 states.
Generating over 70$ million in revenues for 2007 will make it a
banner year.

HHC has opened new full service hotels,
having major involvement through the
entire process, from site selection to
openings. As a new initiative, in March of
2007 we opened (under management
contract) a “Boston’s Gourmet Pizza
Restaurant and Sports Bar” inside the
Bentonville, Arkansas property. Visit

Our new Southlake, Texas Hilton hotel has a
“Copeland’s of New Orleans” restaurant.
We have secured that franchise from
Al Copeland Investments. This concept of
opening nationally branded restaurants
in conjunction with successful hotels is
becoming a popular trend.

The key to Heartland’s success has been its emphasis on budgeting
and financial accountability. The company takes a “bottom-up”
approach, with each General Manager being responsible for the preparation
of a realistic plan for their property. After review and approval
by the Operations Staff and Derick Rackham, it becomes the GM’s
task to “meet or beat” that budget…but in a manner
that does not impinge on guest satisfaction!
With this formula and frequent property visits and meetings with
owners, HHC has maintained its properties in excellent standing
with Franchisor’s, while achieving consistent profits.
